What is Article 50 of the EU AI Act?

Article 50 is the AI Act's transparency article. It covers several disclosure duties, and TickAI is focused mainly on Article 50(4): the rules around disclosing certain AI-generated or AI-manipulated content, plus the related workflow businesses need to document those decisions.

When do the transparency rules come into force?

The Article 50 transparency duties apply from 2 August 2026. That date is central to the product's own guidance and current site copy.

Does every AI image need a disclosure?

No. The law is narrower than a lot of compliance marketing suggests. TickAI is built around the view reflected in the product spec and guidance: the real question is which realistic, potentially misleading assets plausibly need disclosure, not whether every AI-touched image gets a label.

Which AI content requires disclosure?

For TickAI's purposes, the key categories are realistic AI-generated or AI-manipulated image, video, and audio content that could appear authentic, plus a narrower text category for content published to inform the public on matters of public interest. Chatbot disclosure is a separate Article 50(1) issue: people should be told when they are interacting with AI unless that is already obvious.

Does AI-edited content need disclosure?

Sometimes. Substantial AI edits, like replacing a background, inserting objects, or materially changing what a realistic image shows, may need disclosure; routine edits like cropping, colour correction, and light retouching usually do not.

What counts as AI-generated content?

In practical TickAI terms, AI-generated content is wholly synthetic output created by an AI system rather than captured from a real-world source. The product treats that differently from content that started as a real photo or recording and was later altered by AI.

What counts as AI-manipulated content?

AI-manipulated content starts from something real and is then materially changed by AI. Typical examples are background replacement, object insertion or removal, compositing, face swapping, or other edits that change what the audience believes they are seeing or hearing.

Does AI-written text require disclosure?

Not always. TickAI's text-review flow is deliberately narrower: it is aimed at the Article 50(4) case for text published to inform the public on matters of public interest, and it separately records whether there was genuine human review, editorial control, and editorial responsibility.

Do AI chatbots need disclosure?

Yes, but it is a different part of Article 50. Article 50(1) is about informing people when they are interacting with AI unless that is obvious, and TickAI handles this as a vendor-diligence workflow rather than by injecting chatbot notices itself.

Do AI-generated videos need disclosure?

Potentially, yes. TickAI treats video as an in-scope asset type, and the guidance it ships with assumes realistic AI-generated or AI-manipulated video may need disclosure when it could look authentic to viewers.

Do AI-generated audio files need disclosure?

Potentially, yes. TickAI treats audio as an in-scope asset type and its review flow is built around spoken disclaimers rather than image badges, because audio has no visual surface for an overlay.

Does the law apply outside the EU?

It can. TickAI's site copy and guidance are built around the idea that scope follows where your audience or customers are, not just where your business is established, so a UK or US business with EU customers may still care about Article 50.

Does Article 50 apply to small businesses?

There is no simple small-business exemption that makes the issue disappear. Whether a business is small may matter in enforcement and resourcing, but the transparency question still exists if the content and audience are in scope.

Are Shopify stores affected?

Yes, they can be. A Shopify store with EU customers and realistic AI-generated or AI-manipulated content can face the same disclosure question as any other public website.

What happens if I don't comply?

That is a legal-risk question rather than a product one, so TickAI does not frame itself as legal advice. The practical risk is that you may be left without a defensible review record if a regulator, platform, customer, or internal stakeholder later asks how you handled AI transparency.

What does TickAI scan?

TickAI's crawler looks for images, video, audio, substantial text blocks, and known chatbot embed signatures in a single pass over the HTML it fetches. It is built for public website content rather than private app data or back-office systems.

Does TickAI scan every page?

Not automatically. The crawler respects your scan page limit, same-origin boundaries, ignore-path settings, and robots.txt, so the scope is controlled rather than endless.

Can I choose which pages are scanned?

Partly. Today you can control scan scope with pages to exclude and a maximum page limit, but there is not a separate control for hand-picking an arbitrary list of individual pages.

How often is my website scanned?

That depends on plan. Free is manual only, Starter runs monthly automatic scans, Pro runs weekly, and Scale runs daily.

Can TickAI detect newly uploaded images?

Yes, on later scans. If a new image appears on a crawled public page, the next manual or automatic scan can pick it up and put it into the review flow.

Does TickAI scan PDFs?

Not today. The current crawler is built around HTML pages and the assets referenced from them, not PDF document contents.

Can it scan blog posts?

Yes, if they are public HTML pages and within the crawl scope. Blog posts are just pages to the crawler.

Can it scan product pages?

Yes, if they are public and reachable within the scan scope. That is one of the main use cases for ecommerce sites.

Can it scan hidden pages?

Only if they are still publicly reachable and discoverable from the crawl path or the exact URL you submit. TickAI is not designed to brute-force orphaned or private pages.

Does TickAI crawl password-protected pages?

No, not in the current product. The crawler does not log in as a user or carry your session through protected areas.

Can I exclude particular pages or images from the scan?

Yes, in two ways. In Scan settings you can list Pages to exclude — the crawler skips those paths and anything nested underneath them, which is useful for areas like /admin, /cart, or /account. Separately, you can mark an individual asset as exempt during review; that keeps it out of the disclosure workflow and suppresses its badge, so a specific image never shows a label even when it sits on a page you do scan.

How does TickAI identify AI-generated images?

TickAI combines provenance reading with image analysis and scoring. It looks for signals such as C2PA or other metadata, then uses the analysis pipeline to separate likely AI-generated, AI-modified, out-of-scope, and uncertain cases before surfacing a human review recommendation.

How accurate is TickAI?

TickAI does not promise a single benchmark accuracy percentage in the current product. The codebase is built around a review-assistant model: it suggests, explains, and documents, but a human confirms the final decision.

Can TickAI detect AI-edited photos?

Yes. The review and scoring flows explicitly distinguish likely AI-modified content from wholly AI-generated content and route mixed cases into review rather than forcing a confident call.

Can TickAI tell if something is human-made?

It can suggest that something looks human-created or less likely to need disclosure, but it does not prove human authorship. The product is intentionally careful about not over-claiming certainty.

Can TickAI detect Midjourney images?

Sometimes. If metadata or tool-name signals are present, or the image analysis strongly suggests synthetic generation, TickAI can flag it as AI-related, but it does not guarantee a reliable model-by-model attribution when metadata has been stripped.

Can TickAI detect ChatGPT-generated images?

Sometimes, under the same limitations. TickAI can detect that an image may be AI-generated, but it is not designed to confidently name ChatGPT as the source unless supporting metadata survives.

Can TickAI detect Photoshop AI edits?

It can help surface substantial AI-style edits, especially where the final output looks meaningfully changed. Minor cleanup work is much less likely to be treated as disclosure-worthy and may be cleared as no disclosure needed.

What if TickAI isn't sure?

It says so. The system uses buckets like uncertain or requires review instead of pretending every asset can be classified cleanly.

Can I override TickAI's decision?

Yes. Reviewers can manually set the review status, disclosure decision, and even the official icon type for a specific asset.

Will false positives happen?

They can. That is one reason the product is designed around human confirmation and an audit trail, not a fully automatic legal conclusion.

Does TickAI explain why it flagged something?

Yes. The scan and review surfaces include human-readable reasons, explanation summaries, and supporting bullets so the team can see why an item was flagged.

Can I manually mark content as compliant?

Yes. You can explicitly set an asset to disclosure not required, grandfathered, not applicable, or another supported decision state and keep that record in the audit log.

How accurate is the AI image detection?

The image detection is built on a specialist model that sits at the top of independent AI-image benchmarking — in one external university study across roughly 80,000 images it came out as the most accurate of the tools tested. No detector is 100% reliable, though: accuracy varies with the generator used, image quality, and any editing applied afterwards. That is exactly why TickAI treats detection as a recommendation for a person to confirm, backed by human-readable reasons, rather than an automatic verdict.

How are disclosure labels added?

They are served through a lightweight overlay script. The snippet loads `overlay.js`, fetches a small static config file for your site, and renders the approved badge on matching assets in the browser without editing your source templates.

What labels does TickAI use?

Whichever you choose. Every badge library starts pre-loaded with the official EU-published AI-disclosure icons, so you can go live with the real thing right away, but you are never locked into them: you can also design fully custom badges or upload your own artwork and set either as the default.

Can I customise the wording?

Yes. In the badge designer you can leave the text blank to use the automatic label, or set your own label text override.

Can I change the colour?

Yes. The badge designer supports custom fill, outline, and text colours.

Can I move the label?

Yes. You can choose badge position and X/Y offsets, and there is even an option to apply one size-and-position setup across the whole badge library.

Can I change the size?

Yes. You can change overall badge size as a percentage and also set fixed width and height when you want a more specific look.

Can I hide labels on mobile?

Not as a built-in setting today. The current label system focuses on size, position, badge choice, and appearance rather than device-specific visibility rules.

Can labels appear on hover?

No. The guidance expects disclosures to be clear and distinguishable, so a hover-only label is not a good approach because some visitors may never trigger it. TickAI shows labels visibly on the asset instead.

Can labels be translated?

Not as a full built-in workflow yet. You can set custom label text manually, but the codebase does not currently ship a complete multilingual badge-management feature.

Can I use my own branding?

Yes. You can design custom badges from scratch or upload badge artwork into the library, then let TickAI apply it automatically or choose it per asset.

Will labels affect my design?

Any overlay changes the page visually a little, but TickAI keeps that footprint intentionally small and gives you control over size, position, style, and badge choice so it can fit your brand more cleanly.

Can labels be removed later?

Yes. You can disable serving, remove the snippet, or change the review decision on the asset; the system is designed to be reversible and does not bake labels into your source files.

Can different images use different labels?

Yes. The official icon type is decided per asset, and you can also override the specific badge used for one image without changing the rest of your site.

How do I install TickAI?

Copy your site-specific snippet from Settings -> Install and paste it into the shared head of your website. Then use the built-in connection test to check that the overlay script and config URL were found correctly.

Is there a Shopify app?

There is a Shopify install route, but the current working path is editing `layout/theme.liquid` and pasting the snippet before `</head>`. The one-click theme app embed is described in the product as planned rather than already shipped.

Does TickAI work with WordPress?

Yes. The current install guide supports WordPress and WooCommerce through a header-scripts plugin or a child theme header file.

Does TickAI work with Webflow?

Yes, in the practical sense that TickAI only needs one script in your shared head. The current app does not have a separate Webflow wizard, so you would use the same head-snippet approach as a custom site.

Does TickAI work with Squarespace?

Yes. The current guide uses Squarespace Code Injection in the Header area.

Does TickAI work on custom websites?

Yes. Custom sites are a first-class fit as long as you can add one script tag to the shared page head.

Can developers integrate TickAI?

Yes. The current integration model is developer-friendly because it is just one async script tag plus a static config URL, with no need to rewrite templates or call a live database from the browser.

Can I install TickAI through Google Tag Manager?

Yes. The installation guide includes a GTM route using one Custom HTML tag that fires on All Pages.

Can I install TickAI with an AI coding agent?

Yes. On Settings -> Install there's a "Copy agent instructions" option that gives you a ready-made prompt with your site's real snippet already filled in. Paste it into an AI coding assistant such as Claude, Cursor, or Copilot and it will add the snippet to your shared head so it loads on every page. Afterwards, remember to deploy or publish the change and turn on the live overlay in Settings so approved badges actually appear.

Will TickAI slow down my website?

It is designed to keep impact low. The overlay loads asynchronously, fetches a small static JSON config instead of hitting a live database, and only adds badges that have already been decided in review.

How large is the script?

In the current repo, `public/overlay.js` is about 12 KB before compression. There is also one config fetch per page load, and an extra geo check only when EU-only serving is enabled.

Does it affect Core Web Vitals?

It is built to minimise that risk, but TickAI does not publish a blanket Core Web Vitals guarantee. Because every theme is different, it is still sensible to test the overlay on your own site.

Does it impact SEO?

It is not designed to change your site's underlying source content or metadata, so there is no obvious direct SEO penalty built into the integration. It should still be tested alongside your own performance and frontend setup, especially if you use a strict CSP.

Does Google index disclosure labels?

TickAI does not treat the labels as SEO metadata. They are injected client-side for visitors, not written into your source files as something search engines should rely on.

Does TickAI use cookies?

The product uses auth and session cookies when you are logged into the app, but the marketing consent banner itself stores consent in localStorage. The live overlay does not set visitor cookies, and its EU geo check is stateless.

Will it increase page load time?

Only slightly, and by design. The browser fetches one small script (about 12 KB before compression) and one static config file, both loaded asynchronously so they do not block your page from rendering. Because the badges are decided ahead of time and served from a static file rather than a live database call on every visit, the overlay is kept off your site's critical path. Themes differ, so it is still worth testing on your own pages, but the impact is intended to be minimal.

Can TickAI run asynchronously?

Yes. The installation snippet itself uses the `async` attribute.

Does TickAI keep an audit log?

Yes. Review changes are written to an append-only `review_events` log, and the product repeatedly describes that log as the compliance evidence.

Can I export reports?

Yes. The audit flow supports PDF and JSON export on paid plans.

Can I prove compliance later?

TickAI helps you keep a dated record of what you scanned, what your team decided, and when those decisions were made. It does not certify legal compliance, but it does give you far better evidence than relying on memory or ad hoc spreadsheets later.

Does TickAI monitor changes?

Yes, if you are on a plan with automatic rescans. Free is manual; paid plans re-check on a monthly, weekly, or daily cadence depending on tier.

What happens if I upload new AI content?

When a later scan finds it, the new asset is added to the inventory and can show up in the review queue. That is the core monitoring workflow the app is built around.

Will TickAI notify me?

Yes, by email. The product supports review alerts when scans find new content needing review, with immediate or weekly summary behaviour depending on your notification setting.

Can multiple team members review disclosures?

Yes on paid plans. The app supports team members, roles, invitations, and on Pro and above an approval workflow where a reviewer can be separated from the final approver.

What evidence is stored?

The audit report includes the asset inventory, review-status and disclosure-decision summaries, and the underlying review-event history. The privacy and product docs also make clear that TickAI stores the metadata, settings, and review records needed to run the service and preserve the audit trail.

Does TickAI guarantee full compliance?

No — and no tool honestly can. TickAI helps you do the work and evidence it: find AI-related content, review whether disclosure may be needed, apply labels, and keep a dated audit trail you can produce later. It is not legal advice and does not certify compliance, so the legal responsibility and risk stay with you. What it gives you is a defensible, documented record of the decisions you made and when, rather than relying on memory or guesswork.

Does TickAI store my website content?

TickAI processes the pages and assets it needs to analyse, but the provenance reader is explicitly designed not to retain the original asset bytes. The product keeps the metadata, asset inventory, review records, and other evidence it needs to operate the service and provide the audit trail.

Is my data encrypted?

TickAI's public DPA states that data is encrypted in transit. If you need deeper security wording beyond that public summary, the DPA is the right place to formalise it.

Is TickAI GDPR compliant?

TickAI is built with GDPR-aware privacy and DPA language, including controller/processor roles, sub-processor disclosure, and data-subject request support. It is better described as GDPR-oriented than as a blanket certification claim.

Where is data stored?

The public privacy policy names providers such as Supabase, Vercel, Stripe, Resend, and Cloudflare, and notes that some providers may process data outside your country with appropriate safeguards where required.

Does TickAI share my data?

TickAI says it may share data with the service providers it uses to run the product, plus where required by law or corporate events such as an acquisition. It does not present itself as selling your data.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. The owner can delete the organisation and account from Settings, and the page makes clear that this permanently deletes the organisation's sites, assets, review decisions, and audit records.

Is TickAI secure?

The current build uses Supabase Auth, role-based permissions, row-level security, guarded admin flows, and a restricted connection-checker that avoids exfiltrating fetched page content. No system can promise perfect security, but the architecture is clearly trying to reduce the main trust risks for this kind of product.

How much does TickAI cost?

Plans are sized by the website they monitor: Free (up to 5 pages), Starter at EUR 9 per month (up to 30 pages), Pro at EUR 23 (up to 600 pages), and Scale at EUR 50 (up to 2,000 pages), with GBP and USD display conversions and annual billing priced at 10x the monthly amount. Extra domains are EUR 5 per month each, and on Scale you can add capacity packs of 1,000 extra pages for EUR 20 per month each.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The Free tier monitors websites up to 5 pages with manual scans and one team member, and includes the live disclosure overlay so you can apply AI labels to your site, plus the append-only audit trail and its PDF/JSON export. Automatic scans, extra seats, EU geo-targeting, and staging come with the paid plans.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. The current terms and help content both say subscriptions renew until cancelled, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

How is website size measured?

By pages: your plan continuously monitors a website of up to a set number of pages, pooled across all the domains on your account, regardless of how often we re-scan. Every plan also includes a generous media allowance covering the images, video, audio, and other assets on those pages — very media-heavy websites may occasionally need additional capacity, and we'll tell you if a scan hits that allowance.

What happens if I exceed my plan?

We scan up to your plan's page allowance and tell you how much of your site is left unmonitored — nothing is ever charged automatically. On most plans the answer is to upgrade to the next tier. On Scale you can instead add capacity packs: each adds 1,000 monitored pages for a flat EUR 20 per month, up to 10 packs, and you confirm each one before it's billed.

Do you offer annual billing?

Yes. The pricing page includes monthly and annual billing, with annual described as 2 months free. Extra domains and capacity packs are still billed monthly.

Can I add additional domains?

Yes. Extra production domains are a flat add-on of EUR 5 per month each, regardless of plan, and all your domains share your plan's monitored-page allowance. You don't buy them on the pricing page — the option appears in the flow when you add another domain.

Do agencies get discounts?

There is no separate agency discount or agency pricing tier in the current build.

Can TickAI scan multiple websites?

Yes. You can add extra production domains as monthly add-ons at EUR 5 per month each; all your domains share your plan's monitored-page allowance. Pro and Scale can also attach a staging URL to a live site without it counting as a separate production domain.

Can agencies manage client websites?

Partly. An agency can manage multiple sites inside the product, but there is not a dedicated agency console or multi-workspace hierarchy in the current build, and the team code explicitly notes a one-organisation-per-user assumption in V1.

Does TickAI have an API?

Not as a public customer API today. The codebase has internal route handlers and internal roadmap references to future API-path integrations, but there is no public API product or API documentation in the current build.

What's on the TickAI roadmap?

The internal build docs point to broader platform integrations, a Shopify and Woo API path, improved installation routes, scheduled monthly audit snapshots, and notification follow-ups. There is not a fixed public roadmap page in the current marketing site, so priorities can still change.
